A good solvent [acetone or
lighter fluid] would be good start [assuming the
heads don't have any carbon in them, otherwise you'll have
to remove it]
Put tongues in place without epoxy & check for fit, & take
note of gaps
where you may need that little extra epoxy. The most
important part is the
end of the tongue [near short turn of port] make sure the
tongue sits down
neat before using the epoxy. You may have to bend it down
very slightly.
It's a good idea to check the face of the tongue to see if
it is sticking
out at all, it may need a little finishing. Now put a very
thin smear in
the head as well as the tongue ["THIN", you don't want to
jack up the
tongue] & press down hard on the short turn end of tongue,
otherwise the
epoxy will lift up the end, especially because the tongue is
very thin & can
bend up easily. Also keep an eye on the front of the tongue
to keep the
floor horizontal. [they have a tendency to twist slightly]
Wipe away excess
epoxy & wait for it to set. Then tidy up w/dye grinder. Then
drill hole
thru bottom of head/tongue & use a self tapping screw or
capscrew, with a
little epoxy on the threads for insurance.
Don't assemble head until you dummy up heads & intake on
block using all
gaskets [preferably used gaskets] & check for any port
matching that may be
required.
Gaskets...you're stuck w/stock 4V gaskets, you could buy
some gasket
material, & cut out the same as the tongue & silicone to the
tongue, but I
really don't think it's necessary.
Also recommend removing a reasonable amount of metal off the
push rod bump
on the left side of the port, this will pick up flow
slightly.
